Food for thought.

"The enemy will pass slowly from the offensive to the defensive. The blitzkreig will transform itself into a war of long duration. Thus the enemy will be caught in a dilemma: He has to drag out the war in order to win it and does not possess, on the other hand, the psychological and political means to fight a long drawn-out war ..."

Gen. Vo Nguyen Giap, commenting on the future of his guerrila war against the French.

Sitting here downloading the content patch at the moment. Lah! Wanna go mine a lot so that I can up my skill. And test out all the new Warrior stuff that's coming along with the patch.

So I've decided to do random stream of thought sentences while waiting for the patch to DL.

We're starting to do Power Point at work. Considering I just took a PP class last week...yay. :)

I want to get these wicked cool 3D transitional backgrounds and stuff for PP.

Need to change my icon. It's been too long.

3 minutes left. This is worse than waiting for the microwave.

Watching TV and looking at icons beat random sentences, 5-2.

Done! On to playing.

No cell phone

Friday I thought that I left my cell phone here at work. I get this morning and it's not on my Desk. Which means it either slipped out in my car and I need to find it there, or it slipped out of a pocket from a new jacket when getting into my car on Monday...and I've completely lost it.

I don't suppose people know if you can get your phone book out of some crazy internal data thing, and not the SIM chip?

Top Headline on CNN.com

'Troops find Falluja booby-traps'.

So far, it's going as I expected it. They're getting into the city, taking casualties and dealing with the boobytraps that are going to slow them up. The article details firing 120mm rounds into bomb barriers for about an hour.

Be safe, boys.

I dunno why I'm worrying. I mean, we were at 'Mission Accomplished' a long time ago.

NEAR FALLUJA, Iraq (CNN) -- A company commander of the Iraqi security forces who received a full briefing on the expected Falluja assault is missing from a military base where U.S. and Iraqi troops are preparing for the possible operation.

The captain, a Kurd with no known ties to the Sunni city of Falluja, is thought to have taken notes from the battle briefing late Thursday. U.S. Marines and his fellow Iraqi officers found no sign of him Friday morning, except for his uniform and a weapon on his cot.

Marines are concerned that the information he knows could be passed along to insurgents. U.S. military sources believe insurgents have friends in the military and government.

The captain commands a company of about 160 men. He is among 10,000 U.S. and Iraqi forces expected to take part in the operation.

Marines say the captain's disappearance won't alter the tactics or timing of the Falluja operation.

Coalition officials hope the missing captain, who was not named, has merely headed home.

Most Kurds in Iraq live in the northeast corner of the country, several hundred miles from Falluja.

Falluja has been in insurgent hands since late April, when Marines were ordered to withdraw from the city's perimeter.

Responsibility for the city was given to a squad of former Iraqi soldiers and police who were from the city, but the insurgency has continued.

The Abu Musab al-Zarqawi terror network is based in Falluja, according to the U.S. and Iraqi governments.

The group has taken responsibility for car bombings, kidnappings and beheadings throughout Iraq. In mid-October, a statement from the terror group posted on an Islamist Web site declared allegiance to Osama bin Laden.

Falluja

I can't keep it in. I have to say something.

We're being misled. The right data isn't coming in. You want to know the truth?

When I was going through all of my training in MOUT ( Military Operations in Urban Terrain ), the training rhetoric was essentially: This is the /worst/ sort of battle you could ever fight. The casualty rates are going to be extreme and the battle will be protracted. Lots of sniping, booby-traps, etc.

I was a combat engineer. It was my job to deal with landmine and boobytrap threats. We went through this. I studied how boobytraps could be placed, the psychology behind it, how to make effective traps.

So now we're getting ready to mount an assault upon an entrenched, prepared opponent in a MOUT environment who has displayed great proficiency with boobytraps & explosives.

70 Percent casualty rates could be expected.

To all my brothers-in-arms, be safe. Remember all your training, remember what's been taught to you.

This sure as hell wouldn't have gone down before the elections.

The situation is well under hand. Everything is going acccording to plan.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/11/06/falluja.missingcaptain/index.html

According to what /I/ was taught about a MOUT environment, you can expect 70% casualty rates coming out of Falluja.

Okay. The URL I posted has turned into a blank page.
If this isn't suspicious, then I don't know what is. There was a small allusion to this article on the main CNN headline this morning.

At any rate, an Iraqi company commander who had been giving the mission briefing ( probably an OSMEAC format ) for the assault on Falluja has gone missing. They aren't sure if he was captured, went to the other side, or heard the briefing and decided to go home. They're trying to pass it off as 'he only received a low-level briefing' ( that was from the headline article this morning ). Uhm. As a Corporal, if I had received a 'low-level briefing' and then gone to the enemy or been captured and had it tortured out of me, I could have put some /serious/ crimps in plans.

The fact that this article disappeared /really/ worries me.

Not surprising.

Considering I claim to be 'Moderate' all the time, sounds like it smacked me into the Center.

You Are a Liberal Republican

When you tell people that you're Republican, they rarely believe you.

That's because you're socially liberal - likely pro-choice and pro-gay rights.

You're also not so afraid of big goverment, as long as it benefits people and not politicians.

You are the most likely of any Republican type to swing over to the Democrat side sometimes.

The 229th Birthday of the United States Marine Corps happens on that day. And I'm pleased that, in my US History class, there are three of us who are former Marines, so we're all going to go out that night and have a grand ol' time.

E.D. +1

Welcome to Wednesday morning in America.

I voted yesterday, of course. In a two party system, I vote strictly Democrat unless there's someone that I really think is deserving of my vote outside of party lines. On the bright side, we in Illinois put Barack Obama into office for Senate, so that's a good thing. And on an interesting note, the 'White' vote in Illinois doesn't count. Poll yesterday showed that 'White' voters in Illinois split 50/50, almost perfectly, whereas the African-American and Latino vote is what constitutes the decision.

And now we're in waiting to find out what happens in Ohio. I'm not really surprised at the turn of events. I think that it's important to note that both sides got out their vote. Big turnout means democracy in action. And to those that are surprised:

Who do you talk to? Who do you listen to? If you're reading this, chances are you're along the democrat lines as it is. You're most probably 'liberal', embracing of non-traditional values, and your social circles are probably pretty much along those lines. You're also probably comparitively young. Do you talk to Jimmy Jo down in Podunk, MS? Do you talk to Ebenezeer Geezer, retired, down in Florida?

I don't think that a Bush win is going to be surprising to anyone. Wartime president, funding, hugely successful political team. They got out their vote. And the American public responded.

Maybe things will be fucked up enough after the next four years that we'll be able to put a Democrat in office.

Math Geekiness

Allright, so it's not calculus, but I think the problem is cool. From my algebra class yesterday:

"The product of two consecutive odd integers is twenty-three more than the sum of those two numbers. What are the two numbers."

Updateness

Woke up this morning feeling like utter crap. Maybe I have some weird tropical disease.

But that's not really the update. Updateness is, I spent the entire weekend around the house taking care of some stuff and playing video games. Beat Thief: Deadly Shadows. Loved the full-circle storyline that it ended up with, and really enjoyed playing through all three games in the series over the past couple of years.

Yesterday I cleaned the room of doom, disassembled our house network and moved all the hardware into my room. My mom had been griping about not liking how the cable ran along the step out to the deck, and didn't want my CAT-5 cable for my Xbox as an addition. So I redid everything and took it to my room. She's happy, I'm happy, and my Xbox now has a permanent tie in to the router.

Which means I clearly need more Xbox Live games. So I grabbed all the games that I'd beaten in a while ( AvP2, Mechwarrior Vegence, KOTOR, Thief, Buffy: Chaos Bleeds), along with my jar of quarters, and went over to Ebgames.

Turned those five games in and got a pre-ordered copy of Halo 2 Limited Edition, Shellshock: Nam 67(Intense. Game.) and finally, Star Wars: Battlefront.

SW:B is very, very cool. A great idea for online play, though I think the single-playerness is lacking in this game from what I see. Still, the online play is well worth it.

Tonight, I have to study for some exams I've got tomorrow. And lo, does the work week begin.

Crunchymunchy.

Been quite busy of lates, doing the whole school thing once again and therefore getting time sucked away by classes and homework.

A week ago today was my birthday. I've had sort of a bad run of them in the past four years, but hey, I'll get over it.

So, the week in semi-brief:

Tuesday: had a Business test. Uh huh. Regurgitation of material in multiple choice format, took me all of 10 minutes to complete.

Wednesday: Ended up sorta teaching my Math class, or at least one portion of it. Sure as hell beats sitting there as a student.

Thursday: History Class rocks. I love that class, because it's not cut and dry history, there's discussion and the format of the class is a lot of fun.

Friday: Worked and then went down to my gaming group in Chicago. Hung out there, watched a movie, though no actual gaming was done. Chatted up DC a lot.

Saturday: Went to work in the morning. Returned to find that my birthday present had arrived from [info]eyekahn & [info]leavesofautumn. They got me Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix! and a MadCatz Dance Pad. For those of you that don't know, when I lived in Japan this became my obsession and I actually got fairly decent at it. Now I can do it in the comfort of my own living room!
Then in the evening [info]kibin & I hung out. [info]kibin was very cool and got me one of my favorite gifts ( belated ) for my birthday, a Best Buy Gift Card. Ain't never gonna be wrong with that.
Went to see Sky Captain, which I thought was /really/ cool. Very 1930's serialish. I even caught places in the movie where it would have been 'Will Sky Captain escape the evil robots!? Tune in next week for the improbable conclusion!' Then we went to dinner at Tommy Nevin's Pub to watch the Cubs blow a three run lead. Yay Cubs.

Sunday: I was supposed to show [info]rebellibrarian around the city to show her what it was like, go to dinner and help her figure out where she might like to live. Unfortunately, the poor dear got a stomach virus and couldn't come out to play. Ah well. I wish her all the best on her interview today. So I ended up hanging out at home, playing DDR, working on some homework. Also went over to Borders, as I had a Birthday gift from [info]justthisgrrl along with an online coupon. Ended up getting Zinn's 'A People's History of the United States' for mondo discount, along with the Best of Delerium CD.

Today: At work, prepping. I have to do graphics stuff, which I hate doing. I'm not a graphical sort guy. I mainly just type. :)

Song Lyrics

Favorite song of the week:

your hand on his arm
the hay stack charm around your neck
strung out and thin
calling some friend trying to cash some check
he's acting dumb
that's what you've come to expect
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
he's wearing your clothes
head down to toes a reaction to you
you say you know what he did
but you idiot kid
you don't have a clue
sometimes they just get caught in the eye
you're pulling him through
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
now on the bus
nearly touching this dirty retreat
falling out 6th and powell a dead sweat in my teeth
gonna walk walk walk
four more blocks plus the one in my brain
down downstairs to the man
he's gonna make it all OK
i can't be myself
i can't be myself
then i don't want to talk
i'm taking the cure so i can be quiet
wherever i want
so leave me alone
you ought to be proud that i'm getting good marks
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
needle in the hay
